Subject: Tandem Helicopter Stability Program, Status Report for the
month of March, 1956.

Contract N6 onr-27024

Flight Test Operations:

Despite unusually poor flying conditions during the month of March,
several lateral static stability data flights were accomplished and the
results are under analysis.

A report entitled, "Instrumentation of a Tandem Helicopter for Static
and Dynamic Stability and Control Flight Tests", has been completed and is
now being printed. Distribution is expected shortly.

Theoretical Analysis:

Studies have been continued of the variation of the stability deriva¬
tives with speed. These are being compared with preliminary flight results.
Analog computer studies of dynamic response based on the theoretical deriva¬
tives are continuing. Preliminary results indicate that considerable simpli¬
fication of the complete equations on motion is permissible over most of the
speed range.

Very truly yours,
